A nuanced, devilishly detailed piece of literature that burned very slow, but clicked by the end. Gaiman writes like a brewing storm, offering profound insights into the power of belief, manifestation, and narrative, specifically in how they shaped the ideas and realities of America. Because of these insights, this was a thought-provoking, resonant novel for me. However, like the multicultural, nebulous nature of the American spirit, American Gods is intentionally inconsistent, meandering, and figurative, making it a challenging novel to recommend.
Graphic: Death, Sexual content, and Violence
Moderate: Child death, Gore, and Car accident
