What Child is This? by Bonnie MacBird

5.0

This was a one sitting read for me, absolutely flew through it. It had everything I like in a Sherlock story: interesting characters who aren’t just black and white, a morally ambiguous decision Sherlock needs to make, a fun mystery and an emotionally hitting story. Bonnie is just the author for me. The way she writes her stories and characters resonate with me so well. And once again, she created an awesome ride full of everything that was a pleasure to read around the holidays.

Quick hits:
+ Sherlock and Watson are great per usual. Their friendship and banter were at an all time high.
+ Emotionally impactful story. Similar to Unquiet Spirits, this was a very grounded and human story about real people experiencing real issues. This felt like something that actually took place or could have taken place. I felt the emotional punch at the end.
+ Well drawn and realistic characters. They’re all flawed and human, making Sherlock’s decisions more impactful.
+ Heffie, Heffie and more Heffie. She’s just so much fun.
+ Fast paced and original. Great resolution to the mystery.

Overall, another banger from Bonnie. Highly recommend for Sherlock fans as well as mystery fans. Unfortunately for me, I’m caught up now and have to wait like the rest of you. But I look forward to the next adventure!
