The Hate You Drink by N.R. Walker
5.0
Tissues required
This book was amazing. N.R Walker takes a book about two men, one an alcoholic and the other his best friend and creates a heart breaking story about recovering from grief and addiction.
Monroe’s parents died 3 years ago and since then, he had been hiding his grief in alcohol, not wanting to look beyond the now.
Erik tries to help his best friend anyway he can, believing he’s doing the best. One night, everything crashes and Erik realizes that he can’t be Monroe’s crutch anymore.
The love story is one of helping the other partner the best they can by being separated. It was a lovely and as I said before heartbreaking, especially when Monroe realizes everything he had done to the people who love him.
It was a book of growth and hope. You feel both Erik’s pain at being without his love and Monroe’s being at Rock Bottom and joy when they manage to turn themselves around.
This book is a slow burn , best friends to lovers, 2nd chances, hurt/comfort. Oh Just read it.
