The Iron Legends by Julie Kagawa

4.0

4.5 stars.

I had already read both Winter's Passage and Summer's Crossing, and I was especially looking forward to Iron's Prophecy, but I wanted the nice book with all three instead of waiting to read the e-book. And I'm glad I did, because I'd forgotten how good these novellas were! They are great insight to what happens between Book 1 and Book 2 and then Book 3 and Book 4. I wish they had been a little longer, but they aren't novels, just novellas, and at least they revolved around a complete story. Out of these two, I enjoyed Summer's Crossing more, just for the fact that it's the first time we're actually inside Puck's mischievous head, and I loved it! I want him to get a book all to himself (hint hint).

Iron's Prophecy was the longest and had a great deal of detail, and it was wonderful. We get to see Meghan, the Iron Queen, and her new husband together even more, learn a few new details that could jeopardize the entire future of Faery, plus it's sort of a lead up to the first book in the second Iron Fey series, Call of the Forgotten (which I now cannot wait to read even more; just a little over a month!). I loved the romance between Meghan and Ash, but I really liked getting to see Ash now that he earned his human soul, and I love him even more. Also, Puck: I loved how mature he was when he saw them together and Meghan told him the "news".

I only knew a few days before I actually got this in the mail that it had a complete guide to the characters and places in the Nevernever (with comments from Grimalkin) and the guide to surviving Faery previously published in The Iron Knight, so that was a treat, though it wasn't required.

As always, Kagawa is phenomenal in her writing style and creating this beautiful, frightening Faery world, she did it in around 60 to 80 pages. The only reason this received 4.5 is that I wish the first two novellas had been longer and that there had been more pictures!
