X-Men: Hellfire Gala by Gerry Duggan, Jonathan Hickman, Al Ewing
3.25
The artwork elevates this bland and boring tale to just a bit above average, but we still have to tolerate the writing of the insufferable--he truly believes he was touched by the hand of god to become a writer, and most of his work is hack work--Jonathan Hickman, the awful character Jumbo Carnation, and Scott Summers breaking character completely to become a faux optimist. It's part of the virtue signaling trend from the last 20 years to represent all sorts of 'oppressed' classes, genders, and minorities as 'heroes' and just fuels the sick fantasies of a couple of pathetic generations who truly believe they are their avatars and have some value to society.
It completely breaks with the X Men canon, which, like punk rock, was never about acceptance and inclusion, but about taking down the establishment. Not becoming a part of it via YouTube and TikTok (which is no way to make a living).
