The In-Between: Unforgettable Encounters During Life's Final Moments by Hadley Vlahos

2.5

Ugh I waited so long on hold for this and it was…not good.
I read this in one sitting after work today and it’s the perfect book to do that with. The writing isn’t bad and each chapter follows a prescribed pattern. And don’t get me wrong, some of the stories she told were really touching (the ones about Reggie and Albert really hit hard).
My main problem was that the author came across as really uppity and thought she was better than everyone else. She didn’t go a chapter without mentioning something she thought a coworker or superior was doing wrong and how “she would never do it that way.”
I agree that our healthcare system is f*%@ed up and that nurses are overworked and underpaid. And she truly seems called to a very difficult job that not many could do. I just felt icky reading this though.

2.5/5 stars (I’m sorry)
