Тарас Бульба by Nikolai Gogol, Nikolai Gogol

5.0

Beautiful writing however it quickly becomes obvious that Taras Bulba and his compatriots were ISIS of the day. He starts a war that no one needed just so his two sons could become Real Men do which for people like Bulba means to kill and destroy. I weeped for his poor wife, the ONLY sane person in this entire story who begged him to spare their children. He then proceeds bringing nothing but death and devastation to hundreds of people all in the name of Jesus Christ and Christian faith. Mind you, the Catholic Christians were not the right kind of Christians in his opinion so he axed them in droves as well.
To sum it up: Taras Bulba is a misogynist and terrorist of XV century. Gogol is a brilliant writer.
