The Knowledge of the Holy by A. W. Tozer

informative reflective medium-paced

4.0

This was a solid read from A.W. Tozer where he explores different attributes of God and how God’s character affects and influences the Christian life.

I thought the attributes of God were well explained and found myself marking multiple passages throughout the book. I appreciated the short chapters, but they had me a little fooled that this would be a quick and easy read. Tozer always seems to prove a bit more theologically challenging and dense than I expect, but his writing and concepts are not innaccessible. Some of the attributes overlapped, so there was a bit of repetition, but that only reinforced the points the author makes. The portions I connected with less were the prayers which opened each chapter and the song lyrics and hymns that closed them out. I can see this being very valuable to some readers though.

As far as Tozer goes, this did not come close to The Pursuit of God for me, but it was still a book that made me think and that I enjoyed.

Genre: Christian nonfiction

The bottom line: read if you like short devotional-like chapters and want to explore the attributes of God more deeply.
