Lived up to the hype. I loved the slight crime element, while mainly focusing on Kyra growing up and surviving in the marsh. Some hard topics, but nothing that made it too distressing to read for me. I really loved it.
Graphic: Domestic abuse and Rape
Moderate: Racism
Rape: attempted rape at one point, doesn’t actually happen but describes the attempt and the physical injuries caused by it. This is one scene in the second half of the book. Abuse: describes abuse by Kya’s father towards her, her siblings, and her mother. This is scattered throughout the book.
