I’m not sure if the first book had me so wrapped up that I didn’t notice or if Eden O’Neill’s writing just went rogue on this one, but damn. My investment in this story is the only reason I didn’t DNF multiple times.

Don’t get me wrong, O’Neill knows how to write some tension. The story is fantastic, even without giving a handicap because it has a couple tropes I loathe. It’s so, so good.

But the line level writing was weird in this one. Lots of sentences that seemed like they should make sense but didn’t, clunky or downright weird verbiage, half finished thoughts just dropped mid-paragraph.

Line level was just super weird and notably different from the previous book.

Beyond that it was great, though. Soapy as all hell, but that’s what I’m here for. Loved even the moments that had me hiding my face and reading through my fingers. I can’t wait to start the next one.
