Akira is my favorite anime film ever, and so far it doesn't seem like I had missed out on much when it comes to what is added to the book. A lot of action and excitement, but not all with the necessity that the movie's scenes have to complete the film's story.
You can really fly through this, as every frame has movement and feels attached to the other panels around it in a way that even other manga fails to live up to.
It's just concerning to me that there's not as much of a difference between the movie and the manga that makes me want to say "You MUST read the manga!!" as so many do.
