Seasons of the Storm by Elle Cosimano
2.0
There was so much potential for this book and it was a major let down.
The premise was unlike anything I ever heard and it is an Urban Fantasy which is not abundant these days.
Issues I've had include:
-The seasons SCREAM of stereotypes of their season (Fleur is sweet with light pink hair, Julio being a surfer and smelling of coconut, Amber being sassy and a redhead, and Jack being dark and brooding).
-The book started off with Jack and Fleur already in love with each other.
-Everyone was in love with someone in the group (Jack+Fleur, Julio+Amber, Chill+Poppy).
-Chronos was a terrible "villain." What was so wrong with the way he ran the Observatory?
-What does Lyon and Gaia have to do with anything? What was their relationship?
-How is Jack top of the board when he has a "reputation for breaking rules?"
-The seasons magic system was a little confusing.
To elaborate on how confusing the magic system is, I was under the impression when a Winter was out and about it will be winter wherever the Winter is. Hence why a Spring would kill the Winter sooner rather than later. But when they all left the Observatory it wasn't any season? And if someone is "coming into" their season, does that insinuate that there is technically no point in having these kids be the personification of the seasons? For example, when they escaped to D.C., Julio was "stronger" because he was "coming into his season." So what is Julio even there for? Does he not bring summer with him?
This is definitely for readers who are more plot driven than character driven.
Great idea, but could have done better in execution.
