Flight, Vol. 1, by Kazu Kibuishi

1.0

Oh man, I was so disappointed with this.

This graphic novel has been on my radar for a few years now and has made it on and off various wishlists. When I spotted it at a used bookstore I decided to pick it up! I have really been loving graphic novels lately and I find art styles so crucial to the reading experience that I thought this would be a great idea to sample different authors and art styles. As you can probably tell, it didn't go well.

I can't think of a single story within this anthology that I actually liked. I'm not sure if I missed the memo here, but many (if not all) of them seemed to be snippets taken from pre-existing stories (especially Kazu Kibuishi's own Copper, which finds its way into the anthology twice). This could have been great if had been done well, but in my opinion, it was not. I was often left confused and frustrated at the end of each story rather than intrigued.

Unfortunately, I will not be continuing this series unless I find subsequent volumes for extremely low prices or if they are available in my library! Nevertheless, I think this volume and series are still worth a go if you are interested but it just didn't work for me!
