The Murders in the Rue Morgue by Edgar Allan Poe

2.0

Hugely disappointing. The first 2/3 are a fantastic buildup, meticulously describing the clues and suspects, challenging the reader to put the mystery together themselves before the hero does. Unfortunately, the clues the reader is provided with are not enough to solve the murder, and the solution is totally erroneous, silly and unrelated. It cannot be deduced from the clues given, but Poe taunts the reader with this possibility anyway. The reveal is a great disappointment and ruins the entire story.
