Game Time, Mallory! by Laurie Friedman
I've reviewed a few titles from this adorable little series in the past, so I just couldn't miss the opportunity to read the latest novel through my Kindle Unlimited subscription.
Like the others in the series, GAME TIME MALLORY features a smart and spunky young girl, Mallory, as she goes through the frustrations and excitement of her every day life with her two best friends. In the current story, Mallory decides to join a youth basketball group, despite her friends' unwillingness to participate as well. Although she desperately wants to impress her classmates and her family with her dedication and skill in basketball, she soon finds herself in the position of being the *only* girl on the team who hasn't scored a single point in a game. After days of missed shots, even managing to score points for an opposing team, Mallory is ready to give up her on new hobby for good. Can her best friends convince her not to give up -- or, is it time for Mallory to turn in her uniform in order to pursue greater things?
As with the others that I've read in the past, the book was pretty cute, with adorable illustrations, a relateable story line, and a strong female role model that can easily encourage and entertain young readers. This would be a great first series for elementary school children who want to read chapter books on their own, without feeling lost or bogged down in a complicated plot line.
I'm not really into basketball, or sports in general, so I don't think I enjoyed this title as much as others I have previously read, but I do think the messages of team work and friendship will push beyond a slight disinterest in the subject matter at hand.
I'm sure I will read others in the future, for as long as the author continues the series.
