Christina Katerina & the Box by Doris Burn, Patricia Lee Gauch

5.0

It is a truth universally acknowledged that a child can play for days with a cardboard box.

This classic book was a childhood favorite of mine, happily still in print.

Christina Katerina's mother buys a refrigerator. Christina asks if she can have it and her mom says of course.

Every page shows a different day in the life of Christina and the box. At end of day, Christina's mom tries to drag the ruined box away and every day, I think, surely she cannot make anything with the box, yet she does. Every iteration is so cool. Christina's friend Fats Watson is that neighborhood friend that you love, and you fight with. Rings true.

You can throw a birthday party with this book and a refrigerator box. I read it at the library so many times bringing in cardboard boxes from UPS and markers.

We had the most marvelous time.
