The Queen B* and the Homecoming King by Crista McHugh

3.0

There’s a lot going on in this third instalment, but very little of it is to do with the main couple.
Now Alexis and Brett have decided to try being a couple, there’s a lot of things getting in their way. Peripheral characters move to the fore, perhaps in an attempt to flesh out their lives a little, but it meant very little attention was focused on the two characters we’re most invested in.
This time round we have a potentially career-ending injury; the aftermath of date rape; a pregnancy; homophobic hate crime and then we have Alexis and Brett trying to navigate their way through the high school experience and their first steps of the relationship.
The story flies through the events unfolding in front of us, and a lot of things are resolved very easily. Things end on a positive note for our couple, but it didn’t feel all that satisfying.
