This was such a disappointing read as a follow-up to Fourth Wing. I don't know if I was just in a different place at the time, but everything I liked about FW was gone, and nothing I was looking forward to in this book happened. The romantic dialogue feels cringey, the secondary characters I loved took a huge backseat, and there's some tropes that I just really could do with out. I still like the characters and the setting well enough, but the plot this book was a huge let down. I liked the first half, and that good will quickly disappeared in the second half.
Unless it gets some amazing reviews, I won't be reading book 3. I just don't trust Yarros to really write war well or to handle an established couple at all.
