A Bad Day for Sunshine by Darynda Jones

5.0

Sheriff Sunshine Vicram finds herself in the thick of drama and peril in the little New Mexico town of Del Sol, where Darynda Jones's trilogy is set. Anybody who enjoys romance, suspense, and humor should read A Terrible Day for Sunshine.

Jones crafts a lively universe filled with eccentric individuals, where summers spent grilling eggs on the cement and drinking plenty of coffee are the norm. Sheriff Sunshine's history haunts her when a teenage girl goes missing and a kidnapper is on the run. In addition to dealing with issues at her daughter's new school and a valued prize rooster named Puff Daddy that has been taken, she is in a race against time to discover the missing girl and the abductor.

Sunshine manages to find some order within the mayhem thanks to Levi, her almost-old flame, and a scorching-hot US Marshall. Levi and Sunshine have a strong connection, and their conflict gives the narrative an additional dimension of intensity.

Jones writes with humor and a lively style that frequently makes me laugh out loud. She masterfully incorporates humor throughout the narrative, and it creates a sense of fun that counterbalances the tension and peril.

A Terrible Day for Sunshine is an excellent beginning to a new trilogy. With eccentric yet lovable characters, Darynda Jones has created a world that is hard not to adore. Everyone who like a good mystery, a terrific romance, and a nice dose of humor should read this.
