Little Women by Louisa May Alcott

5.0

Overall, I really enjoyed this book. It was fun to read and watch the movie afterwards. If someone was wanting to get into the realm of classic reading this book would be absolutely perfect to start with. The characters were fun and I loved seeing the relationship between the sisters grow. It depicted sibling relationships very well and also the beginnings of friendship. I loved seeing Jo’s growth as a character and seeing her come into her own as a writer and as a young woman. I also loved how the book was formatted with a different event every chapter and how Louisa May Alcott utilized this plot structure to portray themes and life lessons to the reader. My personal copy of the book also had beautiful illustrations inside of some of the iconic scenes which definitely added to the experience. Whenever the story was getting a little slow I would keep reading to get to the next illustration. The only thing I didn’t really like was the ending. Why just why did the author think it was a good idea for Jo to marry Professor Bhaer. They had zero chemistry and he didn’t support her writing like he should have. I definitely would have preferred Jo and Laurie. My grandma got me a copy and has been wanting me to read it for years so I finally did for this class. I am so glad I finally did. I would rate this book 5 stars and would recommend it to anyone.
