Devil's Gun by Cat Rambo
3.5
I really like the worldbuilding in this series, and I was intrigued to find out what happened at the end of the last book. However, there's something about this series that puts distance between me and the narrative/characters, so I don't end up feeling really invested in these books. What I figured out this time is that the surreal/coincidence element, which is clearly a deliberate thing that the author is doing, is not a thing that I enjoy. There's something about whimsy or surrealism or heavy coincidences that breaks my suspension of disbelief, and I think it's really impacting me here. Between that and how much POV-hopping we do in these books, it's been making it really difficult to get invested, to the point where even though this was a fun romp, I don't know if I want to continue. But I would recommend it to other people, knowing that the deliberate coincidence thing hits differently for most people!
