Only Daughter by Anna Snoekstra

3.0

Only Daughter follows the past and the present, delving into the perspective of Bec, who went missing in 2003; Her impostor, who takes her place after finding herself in legal trouble. The story shows Bec's days leading up to her disappearance, as well as her impostor in the present adjusting to play the role of the girl she's pretending to be. But will it be enough to outsmart the people in Bec's life?

I had high hopes going into this book, but it wasn't what I thought it would be. It was actually better, in some ways. I liked being able to see things from Bec's perspectives in flashbacks. The impostor isn't all that much of a likable character but she's not terrible. I read this in just a few days and even though the story is slow going, there is a lot in it that makes sense in the end. There are little things to pay attention to that come into play when all is revealed, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The author set up the book's mystery well enough to have everything make sense in the end. The twist was good, very shocking. I did not see it coming at all-- which was another thing I enjoyed about it. So when you're reading and you think you figured it all out, think again. I'd recommend!
