I understand this is without a doubt a PERFECT book. Quality wise, this novel is among the highest echelon. However, personally, due to my own lack of knowledge with the counterculture that the characters are members of, many of the references which the first half, and to an extent the second, rely on fell flat for me. However, I can appreciate the absolute precision of craft with which O'Hagan weaves this intricate, emotional tale of male friendship. Essential reading even for those, like me, who will not count this as one of their favorites.
