I thought that if I started reading a book I would fall asleep, ended up reading this the whole way through. Shan has the gift of writing stories aimed at teens that are still mature in their themes in a way adults can appreciate as well. My memory is a bit rusty on his other books, but I think The Thin Executioner builds upon already stellar storytelling and has the most nuanced takes of what I have read from Shan thus far. There are few authors I enjoyed as an 11 year old that I equally adore as a 20 year old.
His Demonata series is my favorite, and I read about half of the Zom-B books that I now plan to get back into. Cirque Du Freak next! But, this is an excellent stand-alone and it’s best you go in blind.
