The Crossing of Ingo by Helen Dunmore

4.0

A nice conclusion to the series. I really love the premise of the Crossing of Ingo. I enjoyed all of the voyage arc. I was a bit disappointed in the ending, some actions in particular felt very out of character
Spoiler I mean, Connor killing Ervys... really?
In general, I got a bit frustrated with the inconsistencies that littered the series.
SpoilerIn book 2 Faro loses contiousness trying to join Sapphire in the deep, and yet in book 3 he can go without any issues. Connor is supposed to have weaker Mer blood than Sapphire and yet that is very quickly resolved without much of an explanation. Sometimes entering/exiting Ingo hurts the characters and inexplicably, this fluctuates. You'd think it'd be a process of getting used to it/giving into their Mer/Earth inheritance, but it isn't consistent in that way. I'm rambling and nitpicking, but there are lots of little details that just don't quite add up.
As in the previous books, it always seems like things happen very easily and conveniently. But overall Dunmore does a good job of bringing things to a conclusion and giving meaning to the events in the previous books. I just wish there would have been (even just a tiny bit) more romance between the main characters.
