The Emperor's Soul by Brandon Sanderson

medium-paced

4.0

The world created and teased here is really something for being such a short book. The same goes for the magic system, but what else would you expect from Sanderson? The winner of the Hugo Award for Best Novella, this has some hardcore fans and the 4.37 rating on Goodreads is a testament to that. For my part, I was certainly invested but wasn’t quite blown away by the pacing. Despite its very short length, it’s a bit slow to get to where it’s going and is over fairly quickly. With that said, it has a lot to say about the nature of art. The characters, world building, and themes in a quick novella? Dang, I really enjoyed it.
