Stories I Only Tell My Friends: An Autobiography by Rob Lowe

3.0

I was reluctant to read this book after my initial impression of him during the West Wing era, but like all other autobios, I gave his audiobook a shot, and that gave me even further insight than I had back then. I understood the primadonna persona is not necessarily what he intends, but ultimately it's what he has blindly embraced. The audio is so worth it for his various impressions of all the characters he's met throughout his long Hollywood career, and it also allowed me to read between the lines due to his inflections and tones over the retelling of his career highs and lows. He chose the high road often, diverting from low points by waxing philosophical or jumping quickly to the next great achievement. Anybody wanting any major dirt on his Brat Pack days or the sex tape fiasco will not find it here. He's accepted and moved on, knowing it's a part of his life, but not the life he now leads - always moving forward, never looking back - keeping the self-deprecation and humor fully intact for the next adventure.
