Honestly, I picked up this book because the movie just came out and the book and movie were getting a lot of shit so I wanted to hate read it. While I wouldn't say this is the best written book ever, it's actually pretty bad, I will say I stuck around because I see myself in these pages.
I've never been a victim of DV, but I am stuck in a cycle of mental/emotional abuse. Many people say that abuse is romanticized, and while I can see that, when I read it I just saw myself. I saw myself cycling through the emotions that Lily had, the same thought process and feelings. I hope some day that I'm strong like her.
This book wasn't well written, but it left a wave that I won't forget.
