Rule of Wolves by Leigh Bardugo
5.0
This book was absolutely phenomenal. If I could give it an infinite amount of stars, I most definitely would!
Not only does it have an epic conclusion on the war between Ravka and Fjerda (plus a bit of Shu Han as well) but it also has stories about what’s going on inside these nations. I loved the different POVs in this book; from Nina to Nikolai to Zoya and to the new characters we got as well. The only one I didn’t like was the Monk’s but it was only like two-three chapters so I didn’t care enough about it. It also didn’t bother me (for once) when the POV changed because it didn’t take you away from the action but to a different point of it, where you could see what was going on ‘behind the stage’ as the other characters moved on.
I have to say that this was an amazing addition to the grishaverse - from Nina finally learning to actually live with her grief to Zoya finally understanding and loving herself and others. I also really liked how much (found) family was highlighted in this; the kebben, Nikolai's inner circle and the hilarious guest starring of characters from the other books bickering like children. It was truly beautiful.
I just wish there were more chapters where we could see the characters happy because I feel like I didn’t get enough of Nikolai and Zoya being together (though the angst was more than excellent).
I would also like to inform the author that she will be paying my therapy bills after the end of part one because what happened was absolutely unnecessary! I haven’t cried because of a book in ages and goddamn I cried crocodile tears with that scene.
Overall though, Rule of Wolves was more than phenomenal and I already feel the urge to reread it. It’s definitely my top read of this year!
