The Nowhere Girls by Amy Reed
4.0
I loved this book but it took a while to start it. It starts off immediately introducing us to several character. So I was trying to remember those details and then it jumps scenes rapid fire to multiple different girls and their POVs. I’ve DNFd books that introduce lots of characters right away making it hard to remember things and just feeling overwhelming. I did pause and consider stopping it. I restarted the audiobook several times to try and commit all these scenes into the storytelling. I eventually went to the written book to help pace me and see the details vs listening to them. This helped get me going. I’m glad I did because it was a really good and important book.
That said, as the book went on those scenes kept happening but it made more sense in the grand scheme of things. They even tied into some characters that we’d met which loops back to my feeling like I had to remember all these scene blurbs. That said I still think it still bogged down the book especially as we do meet more and more and more characters and we still follow the three main characters’ POVs. Its a lot it ask your audience to read an emotionally heavy book while asking them to remember an incredible amount of details and additional characters. I think it would have flowed better without those scenes and it’s the main reason it’s a 4 vs a 5 for me.
