The Blood of the Vampire by Florence Marryat

5.0

I enjoyed this book immensely! The writing style reminds of Jane Austen, just with more excitement and drama in the plot (which I thoroughly enjoyed).

The queer and feminist undertones were also greatly appreciated! The queerness came from similar occurnaces and gestures seen in 'Carmilla', but without the outright attraction between the characters. The feminist undertones were much easier to detect. The main instances I noticed were from Elinor Leyton and Baroness Gobelli. However, the Baroness is described to be and act quite grotesque so her feminism feels intentionally demonised.
