Dutch Girl: Audrey Hepburn and World War II by Robert Matzen

5.0

If you pick this one up thinking you’re going to get a book solely about Audrey and her experiences in the war, you’ll be disappointed. If you, like me, happen to love both Audrey and learning about the war, and are interested in seeing how all of the dots connected and affected both her and her family, you’ll be pleased. To me, this was an intimate and heartbreaking look at how the war (and her relationship with her nazi supporting mother) made her the woman she became, how it stayed with her long after it ended, and the ways trauma affect our lives.
