First 100-150 pages felt pretty slow to me, but I think in the last two or three sections, it really picked up and I think I started getting a lot more invested in the characters/plot, particularly in the second to last section. I ultimately also did appreciate the wide scope if it, and I think I sort of had to force myself to stop comparing it to The Thing lol and just enjoy the story it was telling! Anything viral/epidemic like in nature, even if it is the parasitic alien in this book, is always pretty freaky.
