What. A. Ride.

So, Fourth Wing. Welcome to Basgaith war college. Welcome to almost certain death, where friendships are rare and enemies lurk around every corner. Violet is forced into the rider quadrant by her mother, despite training for basically her whole life to be a scribe.....and she's got physical weaknesses that make her poorly suited to be a rider...so what is her mom playing at? Ugh.

Despite her mother's weird desperation to put her there, Dain's attempts to get her to leave for the scribe quadrant, and multiple people trying to kill her, Violet sticks it out. Not only does she survive, but she figures out how to thrive with the help of a few select friends.

Once the Threshing is through, Violet finds herself inextricably linked to Xaden, who she couldn't hate more...or could she? And he hates her right back...or does he? The angst! The drama! OK, but really, he ends up being super helpful but he's still a stubborn idiot for most of the story. They're both stubborn idiots, but when they finally get over it and get together, it's wonderful and perfect and so, so hot.

The development for Violet and Xaden was good, it was nice to see real growth and determination for her, and for him to be helpful in small ways that he doesn't even realize. I also really loved how their connections with their dragons was so firmly integrated into their lives and survival.

I could not. Believe. The ending. So glad I waited to read this until I had Iron Flame!
