The Quality of Silence by Rosamund Lupton

5.0

I don't honestly have a memory of a book that's brought tears to my eyes. I've read some amazing things that pull on your heartstrings, but the climactic scene in this grabbed at me with all its might and left me a blubbering mess, which is weird because I'm not that sort of person.
But this story promotes the greatest of courage in its characters, and every move they make is driven by two things; love; and the need to have a voice. Ruby, the main character, although interestingly enough there are more parts of the story not told from her perspective; is completely deaf, and this adds another dimension to Lupton's otherwise fairly straightforward writing. But every now and then, the author manages to weave together words in the most beautiful of ways, that make you stop reading a fast-paced thriller, and take in something much more.
