The Burning God, by R.F. Kuang

3.0

The Poppy War - 5 stars
Dragon Republic - 4 stars
Burning God - 3 stars

This was my least favorite of the trilogy, but still a series that I immensely enjoyed. This final book felt rushed in many ways, specifically the last section and the ending was ... not one I desired & a bit disheartening.

I really hoped for a romance arc for Rin in this final installment with one or both of our main guys, but was left wanting.

The world Kuang created is a captivating and tragic one. The story is dark and not for the light of heart, but truthful in what you’d imagine war time to look like. I really enjoyed the new characters and students Rin trains.

I did like that Kuang gave backstory and more information about the Trifecta. However once she “wrapped up” their story line, those three were cut from the rest of the plot which happened in the first half of the book. I would’ve loved to see their stories interweave with Rin’s all the way til the end.

Overall I loved the first half the most, and interest slowly fell towards the end.
