The Last Flight by Julie Clark

tense fast-paced
  • Plot- or character-driven? A mix
  • Strong character development? It's complicated
  • Loveable characters? It's complicated
  • Diverse cast of characters? No
  • Flaws of characters a main focus? It's complicated

3.0

it wasn't anything to write home about for me, but probably the best book club selection so far. fast-paced despite the dreaded historical time jumps and flip-flop narrator perspectives (every book we read i s2g). the whole time i thought
the abusive ex caused the plane crash or purposefully sent claire on a plane known for issues in hopes it would crash to gain a sympathy vote for his senatorial rule
but i guess not? it also felt like we should
praise danielle by the end of the book for trying to help claire in the end despite feeding into claire's husband's abuse by reporting when she was late to things and never offering help despite knowing claire was being physically abused for YEARS
and i'm major side-eyeing the author for that.
