The Summer That Melted Everything by Tiffany McDaniel
3.0
This might sound harsh but I think this book would be a truly excellent short story. I loved it on the level of the sentence and there is some super exciting writing here. I loved the descriptions of the heat and this sentence floored me: 'It's hard not to fall in love with the only blanket in winter.' But it didn't amount to a novel for me. There's so much in here that doesn't need to be and despite being relatively short this book felt long. It also tried to do too much. Like I said, I think it would have been a brilliant short story.
