Marta by Grazyna Kozaczka, Stephanie Kraft, Anna Gąsienica-Byrcyn, Eliza Orzeszkowa

This is such a sad tale of a woman who loses her husband in a society that does not support widows very well. Marta, such a hopeful person of good moral character, is beaten down over and over. I was so sad while I read this, and also so grateful that, at the very least, a woman can get a job these days, and doesn't even need a lot of skills, unlike the time and place that this story occurs.
I read this for a class, and am interested to see how our class discussions will delve into this book. Especially considering my brilliant professor was involved in this edition.
