I’ve had this book on my bookshelf for a really long time and have seen it talked about by so many people. Unfortunately, I didn’t really like it. This book was very YA, which is great if you enjoy YA, but I typically don’t these days. The characters, plot, and writing were all pretty shallow, plain and simple. The beginning of the story was intriguing, but nothing much happened for a huge chunk of the middle. I got bored with the lack of action and slow pace. The romance was also completely uninteresting to me. I did like the MC’s secret, her quick wit and her funny comebacks… and that’s about it for things I liked. This story kind of reminded me of To Kill a Kingdom. While I liked Daughter of the Pirate King more, I’m giving it the same rating because overall I didn’t much care for it.
