I listened to the audiobook of this and loved that the characters' accents were present rather than me reading it and forgetting they're supposed to be Irish. I enjoyed the shifting perspectives with chapters so we could get a better idea of Connell and Marianne. This is the strongest part of the book, highlighting that people are multifaceted and everyone has something that they can't always explain in the moment. I found myself rooting for the characters to get better regardless of their previous bad choices. It's not the easiest subject matter nor were the characters always great at handling their circumstances so it felt very real at times though a little heart achey. I was moved by the story and thought it was well done.
