Smoke and Shadows by Tanya Huff

2.0

Started September 21st 2013.
As I know the Bloodlines-Series by Tanya Huff and liked it a lot I thought I could not go wrong with this series.
It is about another character from the Bloodlines-Series, Tony, and I struggle to finish it.
To make matters worse, I bought the two other Smoke-Books in the series, before even beginning this one.
So far I am not sure, if when i will read these two, when I have trouble finishing this one.
Not liking the main character and missing Vikky from Bloodline does not help.
The action drags along, I am not even 50% through and think this could have been written much shorter.
This may end up with 2 Stars and a case of tl;dr .
So, finally reached the end.
No real surprise but a nice reveal in the end.
The shadow-fights where too many and dragged along. From this scenes 70% of the book could have been cut without a problem for the story. In other books from other authors I have seen this also, a well established author gets more freedom from his or her publisher and it does not help, the books get too long and drag along.
It will take some time before I pick up the next book in the series - if ever.
Not recommended, unless you are a fan of Tony from the Bloodlines-Series ( and/or gay ).
In comparison to the bloodlines-series, Vikky was much more interesting and Henry and her police on-off-lover where a nice triangle.
And Henry had often more to do in the story.
