Angel Isle by Peter Dickinson

This is a perfect example of a sequel that did not need to be written. I really love [b:The Ropemaker|289590|The Ropemaker|Peter Dickinson|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1320393182l/289590._SY75_.jpg|1085315] but this just flopped for me. I didn't find Maja to be a compelling protagonist, the whole Maja/Ribek thing is REALLY ick to me (despite the fact that Maja is the only one who is actually pushing for it, no impropriety on Ribek's part), and I felt like Dickinson was trying too much to be like "Magic? SCIENCE." Just let it be, man. There are some really cool scenes here, like Saranja binding a demon, but overall, just meh.
