I confess I had to seek out some spoilers before I could even consider picking up this book, based on the trigger warnings and how the relationship is presented.  Even then, it was still tough.

I do think this concept is interesting.  Absolutely Midas is a narcississtic man, and the book is written in a way that makes the reader both disgusted and endeared by many of his actions, which is very much was narcississtic men will do.  Portrayed Auren as a naive girl dying for love but also dying to break free is very realistic to the situation, and I can very see how this book is being set up to show the reader that Midas is terrible, Auren is locked in an abusive situation and this isn't healthy.

Knowing that, plus the trigger warnings, I knew some of this stuff was going to be hard to read and braced myself.

But oh god I was NOT prepared.

There is WAY too much on page SA in this book.  Some stuff could have been relayed without it being too violent, even with the TW in the beginning.
Also, the writing style is very lackluster.

I do think the concept is interesting, but I will not be returning to this series.
