The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt
2.0
Oh, reading slump. You are wreaking havoc on my Goodreads stats.
When my book club chose The Goldfinch to read this month, I didn't expect it to be the book to shake me out of my reading slump. Having read The Secret History, I knew Tartt is perhaps not my kind of writer so I started the book from a biased place, kind of expecting it to not be my cup of tea. But even still, this book was a slog and I gave up after about 200 pages. I even tried listening to the audio book, but my measly progress was too dispiriting.
She has a nice writing style, fluid and quickly establishing the character of the first person narrator. But damn is she bleak. Just not the book for me to be reading right now.
