Ruined by Simone Elkeles

I made the very big mistake in the 8th grade of bringing this book to school. Bringing a book to school wasn't unusual for me. In fact, I did it every day. The problem this time was the cover. Once the boys saw the front of the book, they were convinced I had brought porn to school. Eventually, a teacher requested I cover the book with some looseleaf or she would have to confiscate it. Ugh, Catholic school.

I wish the Ruined series had had nearly as much controversy as the cover did. The spark and tension I found in the Perfect Chemistry series just wasn't here. I didn't like the main character much. I thought she was a bit of a brat. I did like her boyfriend and the setting of the book, but I felt that the first book was the most interesting of the three. I could have done completely without the third book. The elements of Israel infused in the story were fascinating, and I wish they had been further explored.

If you're looking for a great read for Simone Elkeles, keep looking. I recommend Perfect Chemistry.
