The Multiple Identities of the Middle East by Bernard Lewis

4.0

This was informative and engaging. It provided a readable summary without seeming to abridge more than necessary. It was published in 1995, and its view of the Middle East is from an educated but still Western perspective in a pre-2001 world. It would certainly be valuable to read a history of the Middle East by a Middle Eastern historian, and I am definitely considering reading a more modern follow-up. Considering this book's limits, however, I would recommend it for anyone interested in learning more about Middle Eastern history.
