This sweet and charming couple are what carry the book. They're lovely, and I enjoyed how they both dedicated themselves to doing good, just in different ways. Unfortunately there are some historical inaccuracies - especially regarding Miss Hopkins'/Lady Sterling's cavalier treatment of sex. During that era, even a strong young woman wouldn't be that bold.

The ending was way too short! But given the frequent references to theatrical productions, I wondered if the author intended it to follow that sort of structure. Everything wraps up quickly and succinctly. I know The Importance of Being Ernest takes place in a completely different time period, but the ending reminded me of it.
