The Answer by K.A. Applegate

There are many things to be said about this book: lots of commonplaces and plots with the matching counterplots, however, at this point in the story it is just necessary. I may not like this all-american-feeling of being heroic and Jake saving their friends from themselves, but it works pretty much for teenagers and YA in general. As much as I love getting face to face with the final boss or enemy and discovering that without his bag of tricks he is virtually nothing, it was at the same time a little bit insipid to put Tom's brother in charge of that layout of things to get the story going as it is something on "alien nature" rather than the constant events unfolding unexpectedly. I am anxious for the final book, it's been a two year path to this moment and now I'm craving for it.
