Wonderbook: The Illustrated Guide to Creating Imaginative Fiction by Jeff VanderMeer

hopeful informative inspiring reflective medium-paced

5.0

This book served as an ‘Illustrated Guide to creating imaginative fiction’. It contains everything that could be of possible interest for a writer from inspirations, the ingredients of a good story (narrative design, beginnings & endings, characterization, worldbuilding, to revision and writing exercises. Van der Meer uses examples taken from his own and other books. There are several essays by other authors included, as well as tips and tricks wherever your eyes take you. With this book you also gain online access to even more information.
(Personally, I haven’t used the online access yet at all as I found the information provided in this book are already quite a lot - I’ve been reading this for over a year on-and-off, and to me this is a book that I will open up every once in a while either to re-read certain elements or to do one of the many exercises provided). It was a great read from start to finish.
